You can learn violin at any age, though if you have arthritic hands, wrists, elbows etc you might want to consider something else.

If you're 3 and start taking lessons, your advantages are that a) you aren't embarrassed by how you sound in the beginning and b) people think it's cute. When you're 19, people aren't so indulgent. However, you can certainly still learn to play. (For that, you NEED a teacher. Youtube doesn't cut it. You need to learn from someone who knows what he or she is doing.)

Your odds of becoming a famous virtuoso are pretty low, but that doesn't mean you can't learn to play the music you want for yourself, and find a chamber group to play with.

Even if you started when you were 5, you would still sound screechy in the beginning, you would still get stymied by tricky technical things and have rough days, days when you just didn't get it, days when you were so frustrated you wanted to smash your violin over someone's head. Don't give up. Work through the inevitable rough spots and you'll have a skill to last you the rest of your life.

It will be harder for you to find time to practice than it would be if you were 5. After all, you have more in your life to keep track of. Be sure to schedule in time to practice every day. Since you know about your learning style and have a reason to practice, you'll make quite a lot of progress very quickly. You can practice 30 minutes a day and progress; of course, if you can put in an hour that's even better, but 30 minutes is fine.

Feel free to come back with any more questions.
References :
No teacher is going to want you, they only love working with snotty nosed six year olds with half their shirts untucked. I am sure that you are completely untrainable and have no capacity for learning whatsoever.
References :
I definitely would look for a used one. I would start by looking at some local music store that you trust. You can never be sure what you are going to get online. I would go with a local music store that you trust. If you do not know of one, ask some friends.
References :
It is true that children generally have an easier time learning musical instruments than adults do. However, in many ways, adults are better equipped than children. For example, adults are usually better motivated, have more money, are more familiar with how they learn, etc. So yes, it's possible. But of course, you will need to acquire a violin and take lessons.
References :
You can learn an instrument at any age. In my experience, it is difficult for an adult to learn a new instrument because they are responsible for so many other things - a job, children, university, etc. This takes up so much time that it makes it difficult to practice. A young child doesn't have to worry about this because they are responsible for less and their parents make them practice whereas an adult has to get him or herself motivated.

I say go for it! Get yourself a cheap violin (go to a proper music store; when I say cheap, I mean don't spend $10,000) and a teacher that you like. Remember that you'll need to dedicate time every day. If you're only playing for fun, then it shouldn't be a problem for you to progress over time.
References :
It is true that as you get older your body can't process new information as fast as it used to, but that shouldn't stop you from taking those violin lessons. You can take music lessons at any age you want. Just go to the place nearest you where they teach music lessons and sign up. Don't worry, the dream is still alive! Good luck!
References :
If you would try to learn violin at the age of 19 and up is it possible ?
I'm 19 years old right now, but for a few years now i've had the dream of some day playing the violin. i keep seeing everywhere that if you don't learn early then you probably will have alot of trouble learning the instrament well . now i dont want to become anything like a concert master for an orchestra. i'd just like to be able to play in general. is this possible? not to mention i dont know when i'll have the money for a violin or even lessons. will this hurt my chances as well ?
